6 things To Know about Jumping a car with a Tesla!

It is possible to jump-start a car with a Tesla, but it is not recommended because of the way the batteries are set up on these vehicles.

It pulls too much power from the limited reserves that are available in a Tesla, and this can cause the entire vehicle to have problems if you attempt to jump-start another vehicle with it.

Given that reality, it is up to you to figure out another option for getting a car the jump-start it needs if your only option is a Tesla.

Can you jump a car with a Tesla?

You are NOT advised to attempt to jump-start a car with a Tesla.

You might run into a situation where someone’s car needs to be jumped, and your primary vehicle is a Tesla, so it seems like the obvious thing to use the vehicle that you use for everything else to jump-start the car in need, but you should try to look for an alternative if at all possible.

People would surely appreciate it when they see you roll up to them with your Tesla ready to go to help them out of a bind, but you are going to leave them more disappointed if you try to do this because you are just going to make the situation worse for yourself and for them.

Can you jump a car with a Tesla Model 3?

You should be VERY careful about trying to jump-start a car with a Tesla Model 3 vehicle.

You can get a nice jump-start to your vehicle if you use other vehicles to make it happen, but Tesla is a bit lacking in this aspect.

The Tesla is designed to be a vehicle that turns heads to be sure, but they don’t have the battery capacity necessary to get most vehicles jumped.

The Tesla Model 3 happens to come with a 12-volt battery designed for an electric car.

Thus, trying to use it to jump-off another vehicle can put too much stress on the battery and cause damage to it.

Those batteries are not cheap to replace, so you should think very carefully before deciding if you will try to help someone out by jump-starting their car with your Tesla

How to jump a car with a Tesla Model 3?

If you are going to attempt to jump-start another vehicle using your Tesla Model 3, at least make sure you are doing it safely and correctly.

This means you need to follow these steps:

  • Shut both vehicles off completely and make sure both engines are cool to the touch
  • Open the hood
  • Connect the red positive line from the 12V battery to the red positive connector from the 12V battery
  • Connect the black negative line from the 12V battery to the black negative connector from the 12V battery
  • Turn on the external power supply
  • Allow for a few minutes for the power to return to the vehicle that is needing it

After that, the vehicle that you have jump-started should be good to go. Bare in mind that this entire process may take a few minutes to accomplish.

You should be patient and allow the power to flow from the Tesla vehicle to the other vehicle.

That is the only way to make this process work.

How to jump a car with a Tesla Model S?

You will need to follow the same steps as those for the Tesla Model 3, but remember that with any Tesla vehicle it is a delicate process to jump-start a vehicle at all.

If you feel at any time that it is not working for you, or that you don’t want to risk doing damage to your Tesla vehicle, then you should step away from the situation and try to think of another solution.

Remember, there are a lot of other vehicles out in the public, and there is no reason why anyone needs to specifically use your Tesla Model S to get their vehicle jumped.

You are doing them a favor by even offering this, and if you think that the favor is not appreciated or will do too much damage to your Tesla, then you should back out of the situation and move on to something else.

How to jump a car with a Tesla Model Y?

Again, you will follow the same procedures as the other Tesla models mentioned above, and again you will want to think about the health of the battery in your Tesla Model Y and how that should matter to you.

You don’t want to put any of this at risk as there is a very real chance that you will end up in a place where you do damage to your Tesla, and all of the money that you have invested in it could go down the drain.

Clearly, that is the last thing that you want to see happen when you have placed so much importance in the value of this vehicle to begin with.

Final Thoughts

You can always make other choices when it comes to getting a vehicle jumped. There are services available that can be called to help with this.

If you find yourself in an absolute bind and need to use a Tesla to make it happen, then you can opt to do so, but it is best to avoid this scenario if at all possible.

Just make sure that you at least know what you are getting into if you decide to do so.
