WiFi is just about everywhere we look. It’s on our pcs, our phones, in most buildings everywhere you go, and even our modern-day cars.

In this article, we’ll go over some troubleshooting advice that can help issues with WiFi connections in cars such as the Tesla models.

How do you reset the WiFi on a Tesla?

You can do it on your own, but be cautious.

It can be frustrating when your new Tesla has WiFi issues.

There are, however, options you can try.

First go to your car’s WiFi settings.

Find the name that corresponds to your home router, remove it, and then add it back again.

You will have to re-enter your password to ensure your car Wifi resets.

Another reason might be a lack of network compatibility.

Your car WiFi may work at home, but not at your job. Try looking at your network settings and testing your connection to see if this is the case.

In the case that you own two Tesla cars, try removing one from the garage to see if the other will connect to your home WiFi.

If you are still experiencing issues, you may want to consider a full reboot of your Tesla.

There are two types; a soft reboot, and a hard reboot.

Soft rebooting is similar to pressing the reset button on your router.

You can reset your car’s computer through the touchscreen, or resort to a full vehicle reset, which you’ll need to check your Tesla owner’s manual on how to properly execute.

Some key words to look out for in your manual are “power cycling.”

To do a hard reboot, you’ll need to remove the 12V battery and enable your car electronics to drain any remaining electricity before putting the battery back in.

This can be a risky maneuver that usually requires specialized mechanical skills, so only attempt this if you’re unable to send in your Tesla for servicing, or are alone and far out from any service center.

Rebooting your Tesla computer is highly recommended for connectivity issues (such as a WiFi reset), because it can also prompt your car system to reconfigure certain software, or even enable much needed updates.

How do I connect my Tesla to WiFi?

It could be as simple as using your car touchscreen.

Connecting your Tesla to a Wifi spot will help update various types of crucial software, ensuring a smoother Tesla experience.

To do so, go to your car touchscreen and follow these simple steps:

  1. Find the LTE icon and tap it. This will prompt the system to start searching for available Wifi networks.
  2. From the menu, select the WiFi name you want your car to connect to.
  3. Enter the Wifi password and tap “confirm.”
  4. Check your touchscreen to see if the Wifi icon appears.

Do Teslas have IP addresses?

They can have one, and they can have several.

The answer to this question is a resounding yes, as most Teslas today need IP addresses for the Wifi capabilities and other apps to function properly.

Specifically, Tesla uses a “center console” address for the Model S, which is 192.168.90.100, and just about every Tesla dashboard uses the IP address of 192.168.90.101.

There can also be subnet IP addresses that each Tesla uses, such as the seat-back entertainment systems, which interact with mobile devices such as phones and iPads.

How do I use my Tesla as a Wifi hotspot?

The short answer is you can’t.  Presently, Tesla doesn’t offer any Wifi subscription services that would enable your Tesla vehicle to act as a Wifi hotspot. Other companies such as Fiat Chrysler, BMW, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, and General Motors offer Wifi hotspot services. However, before you consider switching cars, keep in mind that you’ll have to pay extra for these special perks.

You can, however, use your phone as a Wifi hotspot to stream music and videos into your vehicle. Be aware, though, doing this will drain your phone battery like no tomorrow. Plug it in to your car before making it a hotspot for entertainment.

What is the IP address of Tesla?

The answer could be on your router.

As mentioned earlier, the IP address 192.168.90.101 is used by most Tesla dashboards, but can include other IP addresses as well.

Try looking at all the networks that your router is connected to either through your phone or home pc.

You should see some domain names on the menu, and the one your car connects to could be the IP address that your vehicle uses.

Wifi is, by all accounts, a modern-day marvel. Having it on our vehicles can create even more amazing experiences. May the advice presented in this article help you on your future electronic journeys.
